Christian Education at Mattapoisett Congregational Church is growing up!

Traditionally, the Christian Education Committee has focused on providing a vibrant Sunday School program for our children. Now those children are growing up, families are getting busier, and we feel the need for a change. The Committee has begun a process of discussion, research, and prayer to figure out what comes next. Guided by UCC resources on faith formation, an online course called “The Changing 21st Century Sunday School,” and reflection on our own experiences, we are beginning to discern a new vision. We are excited to start building Christian Education into an inter-generational ministry for faith formation, with opportunities for church and community members of all ages to participate in activities that explore, develop, nurture, and sustain our faith.

Christmas White Gifts Pageant

Ages 0 – Pre-K
Nursery care is available to families with children ages birth to 3 yrs.  It is in a newly remodeled space located in the Family Room next to the church sanctuary.  Family members are welcome to bring their little one to worship, leave in the Nursery or can stay in the Nursery with their child.  The Service can be heard in the nursery area.

PreK – 6 grade
Our Sunday school program is open to children from Pre-K to grade 6. We spend time exploring the meaning and mystery of the Bible, understanding our church’s faith practices and celebrating faith milestones. Children are grouped by grades for engaging age appropriate activities and small group discussions.

7th grade – up  ” Triads”
Our older youth are invited to participate in Sunday morning meetings  and Sunday evenings activities. These unique spiritual opportunities create a welcoming and supportive venue for teenagers to further explore their faith.  Seasonal programs and participation in church activities, including greeting and coffee hour hosting, are other ways in which the children and adults members of our community interact and get to know each other.  Jr. and Senior High School students connect and share with each other spiritually, as well as volunteer and contribute in the local community.

Patty Berry, Christian Education Director and Ross Edminster, a retired public school administrator are our designated CORI representatives.  It is the responsibility of all members of the congregation and those who use our facility to adhere to the Safe Church Policy so as to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
