Children, Youth & Family
Faith Formation
We offer an intergenerational ministry for faith formation, with opportunities for church and community members of all ages to participate in activities that celebrate, explore, develop, nurture, and sustain our faith.
Infant – Pre-K
Nursery care is available to families with children ages birth to 3 yrs in our Family Room located down the hall from the sanctuary, across from the church office. Families are welcome to bring their little ones to worship or to use the Church Family Room. This space is equipped with comfortable furniture, books and toys, and a sound system for listening to the service.
Sunday School
Our Sunday school program is open to children from pre-K to grade 8. We spend time sharing the ups and downs of the week, exploring the Bible, and praying together. We experience and engage with Bible characters and stories through creative activities like cooking, making movies, and hosting events at coffee hour. Sunday school takes place during the service every Sunday at 10 am.
Faith Milestones
We nurture and support faith formation for our young people by celebrating faith milestones.
- Classes that explore the meaning of Communion are available to children in 2nd grade and up. Completion of this milestone is recognized in Holy Week services.
- A series for children in 3rd grade and up addresses what the Bible is and what it means to us as individuals and as a church. Students are presented with their own Bible on Bible Sunday.
- Confirmation classes are offered for youth in 7th grade or older. Youth are matched with adult mentors, meet regularly to explore their faith, and participate in church and mission activities. The confirmands are celebrated in a special Confirmation Sunday service.
Intergenerational
Children and youth are welcome and encouraged to take part in the many intergenerational activities of the church, such as game nights, Ora et Labora (prayer and work) services, and the annual White Gifts Pageant.
Safe Church Policy
The Mattapoisett Congregational Church subscribes to a Safe Church Policy. We are committed to creating and maintain a worship and work community in which members, friends, staff and volunteers can worship and work together in an atmosphere free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, exploitation, or intimidation.
Part of this policy includes checking the names of church volunteers, staff and teachers who work with children by conducting a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information). Ross Edminster, a retired public school administrator is our designated CORI representatives. It is the responsibility of all members of the congregation and those who use our facility to adhere to the Safe Church Policy so as to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing.
